Master Al-Nasser – IHF Chairman of Lao PDR

Master Al-Nasser began his martial arts journey in 1982, training in Southern-style Praying Mantis Gung Fu at the Bamboo Monastery in Minneapolis, Minnesota, under Art Wong and Tommy Wong. His dedication to martial arts led him to study Kali, Jeet Kune Do, and Muay Thai under Rick Faye at the Minnesota Kali Association in 1984. Two years later, he pursued Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo under his cousin, David Hubbard (3rd Dan).

In 1996, Master Al-Nasser began studying Hapkido, the discipline that became the primary focus of his martial arts career. He is a direct student of Grandmaster Myung Jae Ok, the founder of the World Hoi Jeon Moo Sool Federation, and holds an instructor certification in Hoi Jeon Moo Sool (HJMS).

Early Training (1982–1996)
  • 1982 – Began training in Southern-style Praying Mantis (南派螳螂) at the Bamboo Monastery, Minneapolis, MN, under Art Wong and Tommy Wong.
  • 1984 – Studied Kali, Jeet Kune Do, and Muay Thai under Rick Faye at the Minnesota Kali Association.
  • 1986 – Began private training in Moo Duk Kwan Taekwondo (무덕관 태권도) under David Hubbard (3rd Dan).
  • 1996 – Began studying Hapkido at the Won Ki Kwan Martial Arts Academy (원기관) in Deephaven, MN, under Master Shin Hoon (7th Dan).
Hapkido & Advanced Martial Arts Training (2001–2013)
  • March – April 2001 – Received private Hapkido – Sun Mu Kwan training in Busan, Korea, under Master Yoon Il-Bong.
  • April 10, 2001 – Founded Sun Mu Kwan – USA in Los Angeles, California.
  • June 2003 – Received private Hankido training from President Myung Sung Kwang (명성광) of the International HKD Federation – Jaenam Musul Won in Yong-In, Korea.
  • November 2004 – Trained privately in Hoi Jeon Moo Sool (회전무술) under Grandmaster Myung Jae Ok (명재옥) in Incheon, Korea.
  • July 1, 2005 – Renamed his school Ji Yong Kwan (지용관/智勇館).
  • August 11, 2005 – Received official school recognition (No. 1469) and appointment letter (No. 210500) as an instructor by President Myung Sung Kwang of the International HKD Federation – Jaenam Musul Won.
  • June 5-12, 2006 – Continued private training in Hoi Jeon Moo Sool under Grandmaster Myung Jae Ok.
  • November 30 – December 6, 2006 – Traveled to Bahrain at the invitation of the Bahrain Hapkido Centre.
  • October 28, 2011 – Volunteered with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department Emergency Operations Bureau – Muslim Community Affairs unit, providing self-defense workshops at the La Mirada Masjid, CA.
  • December 2, 2011 – Conducted another self-defense workshop for Muslim youth and adults at King Fahad Mosque, Culver City, CA.
  • March 15, 2012 – Awarded HJMS Instructor Certification by Grandmaster Myung Jae Ok.
  • January 4, 2013 – Received the Outstanding Leadership Award.
  • March 29, 2013 – Earned International Referee Class “C-1” Certification.
  • August 23, 2013 – Founded Hanmi Moo Sool Won (한미무술원/韓美武術院).
Recognition & Achievements (2014–Present)
  • April 8, 2014 – Appointed Cultural Ambassador by the Gangwon Gam Yeong Properties Committee Chairman, Jae Hwan Kim.
  • July 26, 2014 – Awarded a Proclamation and Key to the City of Springfield, Michigan.
  • August 13, 2016 – Named Honorary Citizen of Pattaya, Thailand by Mayor Itthipol Khunplome.
  • November 27, 2016 – Earned International Referee Class “A-3” Certification.
  • December 18, 2016 – Received the Best Mugunghwa Peace Award & Martial Arts Award from the World Culture Exchange Foundation in Seoul, Korea.
  • July 21, 2017 – Awarded a Certificate of Appreciation for the 2017 World Hapkido Championship in Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico.
  • December 1, 2022 – Established the Lao Hapkido Federation (ສະຫະພັນ ຮັບກິໂດ ແຫ່ງຊາດລາວ).
  • December 10, 2023 – Appointed as the IHF Chairman of Laos by Doju Myung Sung Kwang.
  • June 1, 2024 – Awarded 4th Dan Hankumdo by Doju Myung Sung Kwang at the IHF HQ in Yong-In, Korea.
  • October 28, 2024 – Renamed his school Hwa Ki Kwan (화기관/和氣館).
